Skyline Trail
MIHM Enterprises has been selected as the project's contractor. With a record of successfully completing numerous unique and complex projects, MIHM Enterprises brings the experience and expertise needed to deliver this important improvement. Construction is expected to begin in September, with the new Skyline Trail scheduled for completion by early summer 2027. We look forward to the completion of this exciting project and welcoming visitors to a Skyline Trail that will inspire and serve park visitors for decades to come. We would once again like to thank the DNR and all the FLSP donors who made this project possible! |
Skyline Trail Fundraising Goal of $350,000 has been reached! The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Friends of Ludington State Park (FLSP) are thrilled to announce a visionary partnership to restore one of Ludington State Park’s most beloved features—the Skyline Trail. Though originally slated for completion during the park’s recent closure, funding was not available. Now, that dream is alive again. Winding a half-mile along a forested ridge, the Skyline Trail offers a breathtaking journey above the park’s southern dunes. From this elevated boardwalk, visitors are treated to sweeping views of Lake Michigan and, on especially clear days, even a glimpse of the distant dunes at Silver Lake State Park. The trail’s staircases offer both a physical climb and a moment of awe, one step at a time. |

For nearly a decade, conversations about preserving this iconic trail have been underway. Today, those plans are gaining momentum. The $3.5 million reconstruction effort will not only ensure the trail meets modern safety and construction standards, but will also safeguard its legacy for generations to come. The Friends of Ludington State Park have pledged to raise 10% of the total cost, up to a max of $350,000. The DNR delayed construction because of the complexity of the planning phase. Construction is anticipated to this fall and the project completed in the first half of 2027. FLSP surpassed the fundraising goal for this project by raising $354,305 in donations and pledges. Since FLSP met the Pennies from Heaven challenge to raise $350,000 by September 30, 2025, Pennies from Heaven donated $50,000 to be used for other projects!
