Hamlin Lake Preservation Society (HLPS)

The HLPS is a non-profit, educational organization that represents riparian owners and interested friends of Hamlin Lake. The organization does this in a variety of ways from monitoring water quality and weed distribution, producing a newsletter, to sponsoring activities on the lake such as fireworks, and sailboat races.  Take a moment to look around their website to learn more about their various activities and how you can become a supporter of the Hamlin Lake Preservation Society.




 A Few Friends for the Environment of the World (AFFEW)

AFFEW is a volunteer based, non-profit organization serving the City of Scottville, Ludington, and greater Mason County Michigan.  Their purpose is to raise environmental awareness, sustainability and action through volunteer efforts, signature events, community partnerships and development.  Learn more about AFFEW at their website

Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association (SPLKA)

SPLKA operates the Big Sable Lighthouse within the Ludington State Park.  At over one hundred feet tall, this historic beacon is a huge attraction for its owner, Ludington State Park.  The1867 lighthouse and grounds are operated by SPLKA.  Since 1987, their mission has been the restoration, preservation, education and accessibility of their lighthouse charges.  SPLKA also operates a Volunteer Keepers program which allows its members the opportunity to live and work within the lighthouses completely free of charge during the seven month season, May-October.  Visitors are welcome to explore the grounds, tour the original Keeper’s Quarters which have been converted into a Gift Shop, stroll along the sand dunes or climb the tower.  For more information visit their website




Sable Dunes Audubon Society

The Sable Dunes Audubon Society was chartered by the Michigan Audubon Society in 1982.  Their objective is to promote public recognition of the need to protect and preserve bird species in Oceana and Mason Counties. For more information visit their website
