We have surpassed our Kayak Launch Fundraising Goal of $45,000!!!
The Friends of Ludington State Park have successfully raised the necessary funds in order to acquire and implement a kayak launch on Hamlin Lake, adjacent to the Ludington State Park boat launch area. The Universally Accessible Design kayak launch, exceeds the requirements of the American with Disability Act (ADA) requirements, and was installed in August 2021. The launch is used by individuals with some level of physical challenge and able body individuals who would prefer entering their kayak or canoe, and eventually the water, in a more stable manner. To learn more about the kayak launch check out the press release or video. To learn about the impact a universal design kayak launch has had on a Veterans' non-profit view this video, The Travis Mills Foundation. |
Since we surpassed our fundraising goal, FLSP has also funded two kayak racks near the kayak launch. We will also be establishing a second kayak / canoe trail geared more towards novices and will install appropriate signage along the trail. In addition, water safety signage will be installed near the kayak launch. All of these improvements are because of the generosity of close to 100 donors that supported this project!
You may support additional improvements and maintenance of the LSP by donating online or by printing the donation form and sending it with your check to FLSP at P.O. Box 123, Ludington, MI 49431 or via the FLSP Fund at the Community Foundation For Mason County. All donations of $250 or more will be recognized on our donation recognition plaque in the Warming Shelter.
