Summer 2021 Events

We are excited to announce that the summer entertainment program will be returning this year! Starting in mid-June and running through mid-August, entertainment will be available each Wednesday and Saturday night. The schedule will be available soon on the FLSP website. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.

The Kayak Launch is Fully Funded!

A kayak / canoe launch similar to the above one should be installed on Hamlin Lake by mid-June.

Kayak / Canoe Launch

Thanks to the generous support of close to 100 donors we have fully funded the kayak / canoe launch. We have also raised enough funds to add kayak racks near the launch and a novice kayak / canoe trail to the north of the LSP Hamlin Beach. The launch should be installed by mid-June, once the concrete work on the approach to the area has been completedFor move information visit the kayak page under the donate tab on the FLSP website.

2021 Season Updates

Beachwood Campground

Beachwood Campground will close on October 11 for an enhancement project to replace two bathroom buildings and part of the electrical system. It's slated to reopen June 24, 2022.

Bottle and Can Return

Based on COVID-19, we do not know if we will be able to collect and return cans and bottles this year. This project is normally a key fundraiser for FLSP during the summer.

Volunteering at the LSP

Volunteers helping to keep the park clean from litter.

FLSP volunteers braved brisk winds off Lake Michigan and chilly temperatures on April 22 to tackle our first MDOT Adopt-a-Highway of 2021. With a good turnout, we not only did the northernmost 2 miles of M-116/Tpr. Paul K. Butterfield, II Memorial Highway, volunteers also tackled the beach, the Sable River outlet shore, and the walking paths east of the warming shelter. Volunteers remarked it was pretty clean. We know other people also pick up litter on their own and we appreciate that others help keep this beautiful park looking its best. Thank you volunteers. Your help and support is much appreciated. We will have two more litter pick-up days scheduled this year. To sign up for volunteer activities check out the volunteer opportunities under the events tab or click here.

Upcoming Projects

Trackchair

Trackchairs are becoming increasingly popular at MI State Parks as another way to increase the accessibility to parks for those with mobility challenges. The FLSP has allocated $5,000 towards the $13,000 cost of purchasing a trackchair for the LSP. Click here for more information on the trackchair or to donate.

Trackchairs are being used at other MI State Parks.

SeeCoast Enchroma Enabled Viewer

Did you know that 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women are colorblind? The FLSP Board has applied for a grant to fund the purchase of a SeeCoast Enchroma Enabled Viewer for the LSP.  This device would allow more people to enjoy the beautiful colors as seen in the landscape from a walkway in the park. For more info click here.

Zoom Session Recordings

FLSP sponsored numerous virtual sessions regarding the LSP over the last several months. If you would like to watch any of the recorded sessions you can locate them on the FLSP website under the events tab or click here
