FLSP November / December 2021 eNewsletter

Giving Tuesday - November 30 - Please consider donating to FLSP!

There are many ways to support the FLSP. You may give towards overall park stewardship (trees, trail maintenance, historical structure repair), programming (summer entertainment, environmental education, signage, snowshoeing) or specific projects. See our donor page for more information.

First Trackchair Funded

Trackchairs are becoming increasingly popular at MI State Parks as a way to increase the accessibility for those with mobility challenges. The FLSP allocated $5,000 towards the $13,000 cost of purchasing a trackchair for the LSP. We are pleased to announce that the Community Foundation for Mason County awarded FLSP a $5,000 grant and we received a number of other donations including support from Dick and Dee Falk which together funded the first trackchair. Click here for more information on the trackchair.

Trackchairs are being used at other MI State Parks including in west Michigan -- Muskegon, Grand Haven and Holland. The Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park has two track chairs and is in the process of fundraising to add a third chair in 2022.

SeeCoast Viewer -

Enchroma Enabled

Did you know that 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women are colorblind? FLSP is in the process of raising $3,600 to acquire a viewer for the LSP.  The viewer will allow more people to enjoy the beautiful colors as seen in the landscape from the Skyline trail. For more info click here.

Holiday Gifts

Have you considered making a donation to FLSP in honor of someone? If you send a donation honoring someone before the holidays, just let us know that you would like us to send them a holiday card informing them of the donation.

Brrewfest is Back - Saturday, January 29

Mark your calendar for Saturday, January 29 for Brrewfest! This Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce event has become a major fundraiser for FLSP. Funds from past Brrewfest events helped to pay for the new kayak launch installed at LSP in 2021.

FLSP, as the charity partner for Brrewfest, is responsible for getting volunteers to help set-up and take down the event site. We will also need individuals to help volunteer during the actual event.  If you are interested in helping email FriendsofLudingtonStatePark@gmail.com or watch for further details. You may also check out the Pure Ludington Brrewfest page.

Membership Renewal

It is that time of year for annual membership renewals. If you currently have a paid membership you should receive a renewal notice. You may pay your membership on-line or by mailing a check indicating that it is for a membership. If you are not currently a member please consider joining today.

Board Member Highlight -- Patrick O'Hare

Over the last 25+ years Patrick has enjoyed hiking in the Ludington State Park. He doubts there is a trail that he has not hiked, many times.  Depending on the time of year you may find him hiking the north or south loops of the park. If he is feeling overly energetic he may hike five or six loops in an outing. You will always find him walking with his four legged friend, Callie.

After a 30+ year career in health care leadership with a focus on information technology, Patrick retired in 2018 and he and his wife Maria relocated full-time to their Ludington home. He then started volunteering with FLSP and in 2019 was asked to join the Board. Patrick has brought his many years of non-profit Board and fundraising experience to his role on the FLSP Board. He was elected FLSP Board President in September 2021. When not volunteering with FLSP, Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association and other non-profits, Patrick is often busy planning or taking long trips, bike riding, or hiking.
