Monthly Guided Hikes

Hikers enjoy a break while participating in the first monthly guided hike.

FLSP held the first monthly guided hike on Sunday, August 20. Hikes will occur the third Sunday of each month beginning at 2 p.m. from the Warming Shelter. Each hike will be led by two volunteer hike leaders and will cover different areas of the park. You do not have to be an experienced hiker to participate since hiking pace and length will vary depending on the interest of the participants.

For more information contact FLSP Vice President, Gary Hearing, Hike Coordinator via email.

BPA Makes Donation to FLSP

The Ludington Schools Business Professional Association (BPA) student organization recently donated over $700 to FLSP. The money was raised through a fundraiser that occurred to celebrate Earth Day this past spring. Melanie Tomaski, BPA Advisor, along with student members presented the donation to members of the FLSP Board at the Movies in the Park event sponsored by BPA and held on Thursday nights in August at Rotary Park.

FLSP Board Members Gary Hearing and Patrick O'Hare accept the $700 donation from BPA.

Fall Hayride in the LSP

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. for the return of a fall hayride at LSP. Starting at the Lake MI Beach House two draft horses from Meadow Breeze Farms will be pulling a large wagon through the Pine Campground. Donuts and cider will be available along with other activities. Plan on coming out for this free event sponsored by FLSP.

Track Chair in Action

In August, FLSP volunteers started coordinating the second daily use of the track chair in the late afternoon. Thanks to Bob and Susan Sasin and Jim and Debby Sillery for being great FLSP track chair ambassadors.

"I want to again express my heartfelt thanks for all of time, effort and awesome assistance in helping to coordinate our use of the track chair at LSP yesterday. Bob Sasin was delightful and extremely helpful in getting me all set up and on my way for a memorable visit to the Big Sable Lighthouse. I commend the Friends of Ludington State Park for their volunteer assistance and mission to make the park accessible in many ways for park visitors…it made the impossible possible!"

Most Respectfully,

Deniece from Clarklake, MI

It's a Wrap

Tim Grimm, Acoustic Folk, the final entertainment / guest presenter of the season is scheduled to perform on Saturday, September 3 at 7 p.m. The season was a success with only one performance cancelled due to weather. A big thank you to all FLSP volunteers that helped "pass the bucket" at the events.

The Ludington Area Center for the Arts (LACA) and FLSP art exhibit ended on August 27. FLSP and LACA received very positive comments regarding the exhibit. Thank you to LACA and all the artists that made the exhibit possible.

Salt City Dixie Jazz Band performed on August 27.

FLSP Business Members

Gordys using the FLSP logo can make you a custom t-shirt or hat!

Quick-Way became a FLSP business member. They made another donation this year to tree planting at LSP in support of reducing their carbon footprint.

Do you live in the Ludington area and have returnables you do not want to take back to the store? Have you considered donating them to FLSP by dropping them off at one of the eight collection points within the LSP?

Please consider donating to FLSP!

There are many ways to support the FLSP. You may give towards overall park stewardship (trees, trail maintenance, historical structure repair), programming (summer entertainment, environmental education, signage, snowshoeing) or specific projects such as the second track chair. See our donor page for more information.
